"ENEIDA" is a Latin epic work, written around 29-19 BC, by the Roman poet, Virgil. It belongs to the era of Homeric poems. It tells the legendary story of the Trojan prince, Aeneas. He was the son of Anchises, the Dardanian king, and the goddess Venus (Aphrodite). After the fall of Troy, the gods had determined his destiny and he had to found a new city in the land of the Latins. Aeneas undertook a trip full of vicissitudes to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans. Aeneas was already familiar with Greco-Roman legend and myth, being a character in the Iliad. The Aeneid is widely regarded as one of the greatest works of Latin literature.
