Albas Christopher Columbus

Although it is not known for sure, it is very likely that Christopher Columbus was born in Geneva, Italy in 1451, at a time when various states saw the need to expand and dominate trade routes. His greatest desire, which he felt was a predestination from God, was to reach India, a country on the other side of the globe, passing around the African continent. After petitions to various kings, the Catholic Monarchs finally funded his adventure, which culminated in the discovery of what would later be called America, on the other side of the Atlantic. The rest of his life was filled with dissatisfaction, even though he never got to know that he discovered a new continent for the Europeans. It was others who took the honors and riches that belonged to him.
